COLBY, Kan. — The Colby Trojans men's basketball team fell 122–93 to No. 19 Butler Community College on Saturday (Jan. 17) as the nationally ranked Grizzlies showcased one of the most explosive offenses in the country in the Colby Event Center.
Butler entered the game averaging the second-most points per game nationally, wasting little time asserting control. The Grizzlies shot 52.3 percent from the field and knocked down 16 three-pointers, building a 65–43 lead at halftime before pulling away in the second half.
Colby continued to compete offensively, scoring 50 points after the break and shooting 44.1 percent from the floor for the game. The Trojans also lived at the free-throw line, converting 34 of 45 attempts. Giannis Asimakopoulos led Colby with a team-high 21 points and eight rebounds, going 7-for-11 from the field and 6-for-7 at the line. Elias Agba added 13 points and seven rebounds off the bench, while D.J. Cason chipped in 12 points.
Butler's depth proved decisive, as the Grizzlies outscored Colby 64–44 in bench points and capitalized on Trojan turnovers with 24 points off miscues. Butler also held a 42–30 rebounding edge and scored 34 second-chance points.
Colby will look to regroup and carry their offensive momentum into their next conference matchup Wednesday (Jan. 21) at Independence. The Trojans played the Pirates close earlier this season at home and will aim to flip the script on the road as it seeks their third conference win.
