Volleyball Finishes Regular Season Strong, Set for Regionals as No. 2 Seed
The No. 13 Trojans capped off another impressive regular season with a dominant 3-0 sweep over Pratt on Wednesday night in Pratt, KS. The Trojans earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming NJCAA Division I Plains District Tournament.
The No. 13 Colby Community College volleyball team capped off another impressive regular season with a dominant 3-0 sweep over Pratt Community College (25-16, 25-17, 25-16) on Wednesday (Oct. 29) night in Pratt, KS. The Trojans closed the regular season with a 22-6 overall record and 14-2 mark in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play, earning the No. 2 seed in the upcoming NJCAA Division I Plains District Tournament.
Colby hit an efficient .352 as a team in the win over Pratt, led by Karlotta Kattai's 14 kills and Ella Dridi's 12 kills and nine digs. Setter Amanda Caputi once again orchestrated a balanced Trojan offense with 23 assists, while Isadora Carrareto stuffed the stat sheet with four kills, three aces, and five blocks.
Nationally, Kattai ranks third in kills per set (4.00) and 17th in total kills (368), while Caputi continues to lead the entire NJCAA with 11.15 assists per set and has earned KJCCC Setter of the Week honors six times this season.
Within the conference, Colby remains one of the most statistically dominant teams in multiple categories. Kattai leads the KJCCC in kills per set (4.00) and sits fourth in total kills, while Dridi ranks fifth in the league at 3.05 kills per set. The Trojans also feature two of the top five hitters in the conference, Carrareto ranks second with a .369 hitting percentage and Chiara Binda sits fifth at .332. Defensively, Carrareto ranks fourth in the KJCCC with 1.04 blocks per set, while libero Anita Ferri's 3.46 digs per set place her fifth among all conference players.
As a unit, Colby has remained one of the NJCAA's most efficient teams, averaging 13.53 kills, 12.64 assists, 2.38 service aces, and 14.13 digs per set, while limiting opponents to just a .130 hitting percentage. The Trojans went a perfect 8-0 at home and 7-3 both away and at neutral sites, with nine of their 14 conference victories coming in straight sets.
Coming off back-to-back national tournament appearances, including a third-place finish in 2024, Colby now turns its focus to another postseason run. The Trojans will open the NJCAA Division I Plains District Tournament on Wednesday (Nov. 5) hosting Seward County Community College at 6:30 PM inside the Colby Event Center. If the Trojans win they will eiather play No. 3 Butler or No. 6 Hutchinson.
Before first serve Wednesday, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will host a pre-match tailgate starting at 5 PM, featuring free pizza, drinks, games, and other activities for fans.
