No. 12 Trojans Roll Through Dodge City and Butler to Stay Perfect in Conference Play
The No. 12 Colby Community College volleyball team put together a dominant week in conference play, sweeping both Dodge City and Butler to remain unbeaten. The Trojans improved to 13-4 overall and a perfect 5-0 in KJCCC play, holding sole possession of first place in the conference.
Colby, Kan. — The No. 12 Colby Community College volleyball team put together a dominant week in conference play, sweeping both Dodge City and Butler to remain unbeaten. The Trojans improved to 13-4 overall and a perfect 5-0 in KJCCC play, holding sole possession of first place in the conference. Across the two matches, the Trojans combined for 97 kills, 91 assists, 100 digs, and 22 block assists, showing efficiency and balance at every position.
Colby opened the week at home with a decisive sweep of Dodge City (25-20, 25-19, 25-18). The Trojans' offense was in rhythm from the start, hitting .299 as a team and piling up 61 kills on 134 swings. Karlotta Kattai set the tone at the net, leading all scorers with 18 kills on 43 attempts while also adding nine digs and 19.5 total points. Chiara Binda delivered one of the most efficient outings of the season, finishing with 13 kills on 15 swings for an .867 hitting percentage and contributing two block assists for 15 points.
Ella Dridi played a complete match, notching a double-double with 12 kills, 12 digs, two aces, and 14 points. Lena Mihaljica chipped in 11 kills and two block assists, while Isadora Carrareto added 5 kills and 2 blocks to keep the offense balanced. At setter, Amanda Caputi was in command, distributing 49 assists to fuel Colby's near-.300 efficiency. She also added a kill, an ace, and a block assist to finish with 2.5 points. In the back row, Anita Ferri led the defense with 15 digs as the Trojans combined for 57 to keep Dodge City off balance.
On the road later in the week, Colby carried its momentum into another sweep, this time over Butler CC (25-22, 25-21, 25-14). The Trojans stayed steady on offense, collecting 36 kills on 92 swings for a .228 hitting percentage, while also posting 34 assists, 8 aces, and 14 block assists. Kattai once again paced the attack with 12 kills and 13 points, while Dridi added 10 kills, 2 aces, 8 digs, and 12 total points. Binda remained sharp, contributing 4 kills on .400 hitting along with 2 blocks and 2 aces for 7 points.
Caputi continued to steer the offense with 33 assists and also made a big impact at the net, recording 5 block assists to go with a kill for 3.5 points. Mihaljica and Carrareto added depth at the net, combining for 9 kills and 7.5 points. Ferri led the defensive effort with 11 digs, while Dridi and Kattai pitched in with 8 and 7 digs, respectively.
For the week, Colby's attack was fueled by Kattai (30 kills, 32.5 points), Dridi (22 kills, 26 points), and Binda (17 kills, 22 points on .708 hitting efficiency). Caputi provided the spark with 82 total assists, and Ferri anchored the defense with 26 digs. As a team, the Trojans combined for 22 aces, 22 block assists, and averaged nearly 13 digs per set, underscoring their balance on both sides of the court.
The Trojans now turn their attention to a pivotal week in conference play as they prepare to host No. 8 Barton inside the Colby Event Center. Friday's showdown is set to be a White Out Night, with fans encouraged to pack the stands in white and create a home-court edge for the Trojans.
