No. 6 Trojans Notch Eighth Sweep Against Cloud County
The No. 6 Trojans volleyball team continued its strong start to conference play with a commanding 3-0 sweep (25-10, 25-19, 25-17) over Cloud County Community College on Saturday.
COLBY, Kan. - The No. 6 Trojans volleyball team continued its strong start to conference play with a commanding 3-0 sweep (25-10, 25-19, 25-17) over Cloud County Community College on Saturday (Sept. 6). The Trojans controlled the match from the opening serve, hitting an impressive .442 as a team while holding the Thunderbirds to just .138.
Colby's offense was balanced and efficient throughout the match, with several players stepping up to keep Cloud County off balance. Karlotta Kattai set the tone at the net, powering down 14 kills while also contributing two aces and finishing with a match-high 16 points. On the outside, both Ella Dridi and Lena Mihaljica gave the Trojans consistent production, each tallying 8 kills and adding three aces to spark momentum swings, combining for 24 total points between them.
In the middle, Chiara Binda was nearly unstoppable, hitting an impressive .583 with 8 kills and making her presence felt defensively with two block assists. Isadora Carrareto chipped in 5 kills, while Kami Cowdrey came off the bench and made the most of her opportunity, delivering a flawless 3-for-3 performance at the net.
The steady play of Amanda Caputi guided the entire effort, as the sophomore setter spread the ball around with 38 assists while also contributing 10 digs for a double-double. Behind her, libero Anita Ferri anchored the back row, picking up a team-high 12 digs and keeping rallies alive with her steady passing. The combination of balanced scoring and strong defensive play proved too much for Cloud County, allowing Colby to stay in control from start to finish.
Colby finished with 48 kills, 46 assists, 42 digs, 8 service aces, and 8 block assists, compared to Cloud County's 24 kills, 20 assists, 41 digs, 1 service ace, and 5 block assists. The win puts the Trojans at 8-2 (2-0 KJCCC) and tied for first place with No.5 Barton. The team takes on Hutchinson in Hutch on Wednesday (Sept. 10) and then hits the road to Sterling, Co. for the four matches at the Northeastern Tournament.
