COLBY, Kan. – The Colby Trojans softball team continues Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play this week with a road doubleheader at Pratt on Wednesday (March 11) before returning home Saturday (March 14) to host nationally ranked Hutchinson.
The Trojans enter the week 8-8 overall (3-1KJCCC), powered by one of the most productive offenses in the conference. Through the first 16 games, Colby is hitting .346 as a team with a .618 slugging percentage and 31 home runs. Leading the offensive surge is Briley Christensen, who is coming off a massive week that earned her KJCCC Player of the Week honors. Christensen hit .750 during the six-game stretch, blasting three home runs and driving in 11 runs. She currently leads the Trojans with a .595 batting average on the season.
Power has also been a major strength for Colby. Brooke Zinken leads the team with eight home runs and 11 extra-base hits while batting .451. The Trojans also feature strong production throughout the lineup as Emmy Supernor and Brooklynn Ekker are both hitting over .400 on the season.
In the circle, Cheyenne Cramer leads the pitching staff with a 3-2 record and a 5.49 ERA, posting a 1.74 WHIP in her appearances. Katelyn Zukewich has provided strikeout power, recording a 10.27 strikeouts per seven innings while allowing 31 earned runs so far this season.
Wednesday's opponent, Pratt, enters the doubleheader 3-15 (0-4 KJCCC), though the Beavers have picked up two wins at home this season. Freshman Alyssa Montez leads Pratt offensively with a .368 batting average, tallying four extra-base hits and 10 RBIs. Sophomore Desirae Lopez follows with a .289 average and 11 hits on the year. Montez also anchors the Beavers in the circle, holding the team's best ERA at 5.39 with 11 strikeouts in six appearances.
The Trojans will then return to Colby on Saturday for a key conference matchup with nationally ranked Hutchinson. The Blue Dragons come into the week 15-5 (4-0 KJCCC), with a matchup against Barton scheduled before their trip to Colby.
Offensively, Hutchinson is led by Riley Dreher, who is hitting .475 with 23 RBIs and 11 extra-base hits. The Blue Dragons feature a deep lineup with eight players batting over .300 this season. In the circle, Hutchinson relies on a trio of consistent pitchers, highlighted by Aubree Thomas, who owns a 3.23 ERA in six appearances with four complete games.
With conference play heating up, the Trojans will look to keep their offense rolling as they battle Pratt on the road before returning home for a marquee matchup against the nationally ranked Blue Dragons.
