Cross Country Season Opens Saturday in Wichita

The Colby Community College cross country teams are set to compete this Saturday at the JK Gold Classic, hosted by Wichita State University at Clapp Golf Course in Wichita, Kan. The men's 6,000-meter race will open the meet at 8:00 a.m., followed by the women's 5,000-meter race at 8:30 a.m.
The meet will feature strong competition, with the top 15 finishers in the university/college division earning T-shirts, while the first-place men's and women's teams will be awarded championship plaques. Live results will be available through the link provided below.
Colby holds the meet record in the men's 6K. Last fall, Sibonelo Khumalo turned in a dominant performance, finishing more than 10 minutes ahead of the next best time to set the fastest time ever recorded on the Clapp Golf Course layout and in meet history.
On the men's side, Colby will line up 10 runners, led by returning sophomores Kenan Delestre (La Poueze, France) and Dakotah Kotchuck (Loveland, Colo.). Newcomer Japhet Kiprono, a transfer from Central Arizona, adds experience to the lineup, which also features Andrew Berger, Thomas Calas, Jason Carter, Junior Edouard, Vincent Kirui, Alexandre LeRoy, and Edoney Russell. The Trojans enter the weekend ranked No. 19 in the USTFCCCA NJCAA Division I Coaches' Poll, released last week, with the next poll set to be announced Wednesday (Sept. 17).
The women's team will bring four runners, highlighted by sophomore transfer Nadine McIntyre (Enniskillen, Fermanagh, United Kingdom), who is expected to make an immediate impact in her debut season. She will be joined by freshmen Laina Larson, Kaylen McAtee, and Adriana Phillips, along with the rest of the Trojan squad.
