The Colby track and field teams are set to compete in their second outdoor meet of the season as they travel to Emporia, KS for the Midwest Classic and Combined Events, held Thursday (April 2)-Friday (April 3) at Fran Welch Stadium.
The meet, hosted at Emporia State, will feature a full slate of combined events, field events, and running finals, providing the Trojans with another early-season opportunity to post qualifying marks and continue building momentum.
Colby enters the weekend riding high after a dominant showing at the West Texas Relays, where the Trojans swept both KJCCC Track Athlete of the Week honors.
Trojans men had a pair of qualifiers coming from Javano Bridgewater where he turned in one of the top performances in the country, earning KJCCC Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors. Bridgewater placed second in the 200 meters with a time of 20.76, the second-fastest in school history and currently ranked fourth in the NJCAA. He backed that up with another runner-up finish in the 400 meters, clocking a school-record 46.67, also ranking 10th nationally.
Leading the way on the women's side is Beatrice Boakye, who delivered a pair of national qualifying performances against a loaded field at the West Texas Relays. Boakye claimed a first-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 24.25, currently the seventh-fastest mark in the NJCAA this season. She followed that performance with a 55.65 in the 400 meters, placing fifth while recording the ninth-fastest time nationally.
With early-season national marks already on the board, the Trojans will look to build on their success this weekend against a competitive field. Field events are scheduled to begin Friday morning, followed by a full slate of running events starting at noon. Combined events will take place across both days, beginning Thursday afternoon. Admission to the meet is free to the public.
