Track & Field Men Deliver Strong Performances in Emporia
Competing in their second outdoor meet of the season, the Colby men’s track and field team continued to build momentum at the Midwest Classic, turning in several strong performances highlighted by a win, multiple podium finishes, and an NJCAA qualifying mark this week.
EMPORIA, Kan. – Competing in their second outdoor meet of the season, the Colby men's track and field team continued to build momentum at the Midwest Classic, turning in several strong performances highlighted by a win, multiple podium finishes, and an NJCAA qualifying mark this week (April 2-3).
In the steeplechase, Kenan Delestre turned in one of the most significant performances of the meet, placing third with a time of 9:39.11 while hitting an NJCAA qualifying mark.
Leading the way for the Trojans was Japhet Kiprono, who captured the 5,000 meters title with a time of 15:30.38, giving Colby its top finish of the meet. Japhet Kiprono also added a seventh-place finish in the 1,500 meters (4:11.19), further showcasing the depth of Colby's distance group.
The middle distance crew continued to impress throughout the weekend, as Alexandre LeRoy delivered a pair of standout performances, placing second in the 1,500 meters (4:02.79) and third in the 800 meters (1:55.90). Thomas Calas added to the strong showing in the 800 meters with a fifth-place finish in 1:56.64.
On the track, Walter Parker and Finley Beaven provided solid efforts in the sprints, each competing in both the 100 and 200 meters. Parker led the pair with a 10.83 in the 100 and a 22.78 in the 200, while Beaven followed closely behind in both events. In the 400 meters, Leonardo Clement paced the Trojans with an 11th-place finish (50.63), with Jairus Turrbiates also adding a top-20 performance.
In the field events, Sumner Homolka highlighted the group with an 18th-place finish in the javelin (159-11), a mark that now ranks second in program history. Jared Cox led the way in the throws, finishing 15th in the discus, while Tristan King and Deangelo Delancy contributed across multiple throwing events.
The Trojans track & field program back in action next week when they head to El Dorado for the Grizzly Gold Invite.
