The Colby Trojan's track and field teams will officially open the 2026 indoor season on Friday (Jan. 16), competing at the Washburn Rust Buster inside the Sneed Indoor Athletic Facility in Topeka, KS. The meet is hosted by DII Washburn University and is set to begin at 10:30 with both running and field events.
The Rust Buster will be one of the largest indoor meets in the region, featuring 65 teams, 970 student-athletes, and 1,519 total entries. Colby enters the meet with 46 total entries across men's and women's events. Fans can follow the action throughout the day with live results and live video coverage. Admission is $5 at the door.
The meet marks the debut for first-year head coach Sandra Glover, a decorated Olympian and one of the most accomplished athletes to ever lead the Trojan program. Glover competed for Team USA at the 2000 Olympic Games and is a two-time World Championships medalist in the 400-meter hurdles. She was also a four-time USA Track & Field Trials Champion (1999–2002) and earned NCAA All-American honors at the University of Houston in 1991. Friday's meet will be the first opportunity for Glover to showcase her program on the collegiate stage.
Several Trojans return with notable results from the 2025 Region 6 Indoor Championships. The men's side returns multiple conference finalists, including Javano Bridgewater (4th, 400m), Redith Stubbs (8th, 400m), and Kenan Delestre, who finished fifth in conference and eighth in region in both the mile and 1000 meters.
The women return Dekanya Webb, who finished seventh in the region and fourth in the conference in the 60-meter hurdles, while Beatrice Boakye placed third in conference and sixth in region in the 60-meter dash.
The Trojan men bring several athletes with strong entry marks and championship experience. Bridgewater enters the 400 meters with the fifth-best time in the field at 48.09, while Stubbs ranks ninth in the field. Both athletes were conference finalists last season and look to set the tone early in 2026.
In the middle-distance events, freshman Thomas Calas and Alexandre LeRoy enter the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.00, ranking seventh overall. Delestre owns the sixth-best mile time in the meet at 4:13.81, while Japhet Kiprono is also entered in the mile at 4:25.00. Colby's 4x400-meter relay squad enters with the second-fastest time in the field at a blazing 3:12.25.
In the throws, freshman Tristan King will compete in both the shot put and weight throw, entering with a mark of 14.73 meters in the shot put and ranking 14th in the weight throw. While sophomore standout Jared Cox is set to get his first marks of the season.
On the women's side, Webb will compete in the 60-meter hurdles with an entry time of 9.14, continuing a strong collegiate career that included top finishes at the conference and regional level last season. The Trojan women's 4x400-meter relay team enters the meet with the fifth-best time overall at 3:58.91.
Nadine McIntyre transitions to the indoor track season after a great cross county season, entering the mile ranked 30th with a time of 5:24.00.
A new face to watch is Karlotta Kattai, an All-American volleyball athlete making her collegiate debut in track and field. Kattai will join the throws group and is set to record her first collegiate mark in the women's shot put.
With a mix of proven returners and promising newcomers, the Washburn Rust Buster will provide an early measuring stick for the Trojans as they begin their 2026 indoor season.
