Members of the Colby Trojans women's wrestling team will compete this Saturday (Feb. 14) at the Jimmy May Open, the program's final competition before the national championships. The Trojans enter the weekend looking to build on strong performances at last week's Cerritos Open in California.
At 160 pounds, Kaylen McAtee highlighted Colby's performance at the Cerritos Open with a third-place finish. After opening the tournament with a victory and dropping her second bout, McAtee responded with an impressive run through the consolation bracket, recording four consecutive wins, all by fall, to close the tournament.
Competing at 145 pounds, Atavia Cain secured a win in her opening match before falling by technical fall in the second round. She rebounded with two straight victories before dropping her final two bouts to place sixth overall.
Cristina Palacio Martinez and Aspen Sharpe will also represent the Trojans this weekend. Sharpe, competing unattached during the 2024–25 season, has continued to produce strong performances and remains a consistent competitor in tournament action.
The Jimmy May Open serves as the final tune-up for the Trojans as they prepare for the national championships, providing a key opportunity to refine performance and build momentum heading into the postseason. The NJCAA Tournament is set for the first weekend in March (March 6-7).
