HAYS, Kan. - The No. 13 Colby Community College volleyball team kept its postseason run alive Friday with a thrilling four-set win over Hutchinson Community College in the semifinals of the Plains District Tournament at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays. The Trojans came out strong, earning a 3-1 victory and advance to the Region 6 District Championship match.
Sophomore Karlotta Kattai led the attack with 17 kills and added four blocks and two aces for a match-high 21 points. Middle blocker Isadora Carrareto was equally effective, finishing with nine kills on an impressive .421 hitting percentage to go with three blocks and two aces. Setter Amanda Caputi continued her stellar postseason play, dishing out 40 assists while adding three aces, three blocks, and three kills of her own.
Defensively, Ella Dridi anchored the back row with 24 digs and chipped in seven kills and two aces. Anita Ferri added 17 digs, while Isabella Byrd and Chiara Binda helped Colby maintain steady coverage at the net. The Trojans tallied 20 total blocks and 10 service aces in four sets of action.
Colby now faces No. 5 Barton Community College today at 2 p.m. in Hays, with an automatic bid to the NJCAA National Tournament on the line. It's one of the biggest matches of the year for the Trojans, and they'll need all the support they can get. Fans are encouraged to make the short trip from Colby to Hays to cheer on the team as they battle for a spot at nationals.
