Boakye, Mcintyre Earn All-American Honors at NJCAA Indoor Championships
The women’s track and field team wrapped up a strong showing at the NJCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships with multiple personal bests, a school record, and two All-American performances as the Trojans competed against the nation’s best over two days.
TOPEKA, Kan. - The women's track and field team wrapped up a strong showing at the NJCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships with multiple personal bests, a school record, and two All-American performances as the Trojans competed against the nation's best over two days.
Colby opened the championships on Friday (March 6) with several athletes advancing through preliminary rounds and setting the tone for a competitive weekend.
In the 60-meter prelims, Faith Vine led the Trojans with a time of 7.70, placing 25th overall, while Ashleah Hewitt followed in 35th with a mark of 7.85. Hewitt later returned to the track in the 200-meter prelims, where she clocked 26.04 to finish 29th in the event.
The Trojans saw a standout performance in the 60-meter hurdles prelims from Dekanya Webb. Webb ran 8.92, breaking her own school record in the event. Despite the record-breaking performance, she narrowly missed qualifying for the finals, finishing 15th overall in a deep national field.
One of the biggest highlights of the opening day came in the 5,000 meters, where Nadine Mcintyre delivered a tremendous performance. Mcintyre finished 8th overall in 17:45.29, earning NJCAA All-American honors. The performance also moved her up the Colby record book as she improved from third all-time to second in school history in the event while setting a new personal best.
Colby also made a strong statement in the 400-meter prelims, as Beatrice Boakye advanced to the finals with an impressive time of 55.68, finishing fourth overall in the preliminaries and positioning herself for a shot at a podium finish on the final day.
Boakye highlighted Saturday (March 7) in the 400-meter finals, where she placed fifth overall with a time of 55.94, earning NJCAA All-American honors. Boakye's performance capped an outstanding indoor season.
Mcintyre continued her strong weekend in the distance events, competing in the 3,000 meters on Saturday. She finished 12th overall with a time of 10:16.74, another personal best. The performance improved her standing in the Colby record book as she moved from sixth all-time to fifth in school history in the event.
The Trojans also capped the meet with a historic performance in the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Randieunna Jeffery, Faith Vine, Dekanya Webb, and Beatrice Boakye ran 3:52.78, finishing 11th overall while setting a new school record in the event.
Overall, the Trojans turned in a strong performance at the national championships, highlighted by two All-American honors, multiple personal bests, and two new school records.
