LA JUNTA, Colo. - The Colby men's wrestling team delivered another dominant performance against Otero JC, cruising to a 45–11 victory and completing a season sweep in dual competition Wednesday (Dec. 17) night.
After dropping the opening bout at 125 pounds, the Trojans quickly seized control after rattling off wins in nine of the final ten matches, with an overwhelming display of bonus-point victories that kept the momentum firmly on their side.
Luis Vasquez was a spark at 133 pounds with a solid 10–5 decision, setting the tone for what became a pin-heavy night for the Trojans. Sebastian Rodriguez followed with a forfeit at 141, before Colby unleashed a string of falls that broke the dual wide open.
Scotty Engle at 149 pounds had a quick pin, immediately followed by Jovanny Arellanes at 157, who continued the surge with another fall. After a brief setback at 165, Colby answered as Robert Cazares secured a fall at 174, swinging the momentum right back in the Trojans favor.
The bonus-point barrage continued as Gunner Owens (184), Savieon Garrison (197), and Robert Tatum (285) each ended their bouts with falls. Garrison's performance stood out as one of the most remarkable of the night, earning a pin at 197 pounds despite originally weighing in at 133, showcasing his toughness in a truly wild matchup.
By night's end, Colby had stacked up seven falls and a forfeit, turning the dual into a resounding statement win. The 45–11 victory provides a strong close to the 2025 calendar year, as Colby now heads into a two-week break before returning to action in early January at the Jet Open, hosted by Newman University in Wichita.
