The Trojans men's wrestling team are set to travel to Great Bend for the Cougar Open, hosted by Barton Community College. The meet is set for Sunday (Dec. 14), where Colby will bring a large and competitive roster into its final open of the semester. The Trojans will then head to Colorado for a mid-week dual Wednesday (Dec. 17) against Otero JC.
Colby's traveling group spans nearly every weight class, including Kash Alley, Jovanny Arellanes, Salvador Barintas, Tate Blackwill, Robert Cazares, Sammie Cyrus, Scotty Engle, Savieon Garrison, Tevin Jackson, Cah'mari Johnson, Bryant Jones, Kevaun Jones, Gunner Owens, Sebastian Rodriguez, Hunter Smith-Velarde, Talon Suttles, Robert Tatum, Luis Vasquez, and Ayden Wohlgemuth.
The Trojans enter Great Bend after several standout efforts at the Bob Smith Open in Hays. At 149 pounds, Scotty Engle delivered one of the top performances of the event, recording three pins and eight team points while battling through six matches. His wins, coming in 2:25, 1:38, and 3:36, carried him deep into the consolation rounds, where he finished just one victory shy of wrestling for a placement.
At 133 pounds, Talon Suttles put together one of the most complete outings of the weekend. His tournament included two major decisions, a fall in 1:55, and 6.5 team points as he maintained a high pace and consistent offensive pressure throughout the day. In the upper weights, heavyweight Robert Tatum continued his reliable production by earning a 4–3 decision over Newman's Isiah Hill after an opening bye, then adding a fall in consolation action to cap another strong performance.
Additional depth pieces will play key roles as well, including returning All-American Cah'mari Johnson and national qualifier Luis Vasquez, both of whom add experience to the roster.
Colby will compete throughout the day Sunday in Great Bend. The Trojans then turn their attention to a road dual next Wednesday (Dec. 17), when they travel to Otero JC for the third meeting between the programs this season. Colby has claimed both prior matchups, a 33–20 win at home and a 39–15 victory on the road, and will look to complete the season sweep. Action is set to begin at 7:00 PM CST in La Junta, CO.
