Downes Caps Season with Strong Final Showing at OPSU

GUYMON, Okla. – The Colby Trojans Rodeo wrapped up their rodeo season this weekend (April 23-25) at the OPSU Rodeo, closing the year with highlight steer wrestling runs from Lakoddah Downes. As the final event of the season concluded, the Trojans finished tied for 15th in the region with Kansas State at 225 points.

Downes led the way for Colby, putting together one of the best individual performances of the weekend. He opened with an 8th-place run in the long round, turning in a 10.9, then came back to win the short-go with a blazing 5.5. His runs earned the team 110 total points and a combined time of 16.4, securing a second-place overall finish and anchoring the Trojans' regional score.

In barrel racing, Emma Krase led the Trojans with a 55th-place run of 18.21, followed by Brooklynn Hughes in 90th with a 19.46 and Alaura Crockett in 123rd at 33.02. Dali Reser also added a 50th-place finish in goat tying with an 11.8 run.

With the season now complete, the Trojans finished on a high note, highlighted by Downes' dominant performance in the final rodeo and a solid team effort that helped secure a mid-pack regional finish. Despite being represented by a smaller group on the men's side, the Trojans still put together a competitive point total that kept them right in the mix with larger programs like Kansas State throughout the regional standings.
