Kiprono Wins 10K, Men's Track & Field Stack Record Book Marks at Two Meets
The Colby Trojans men’s track and field team split competition this weekend across the West Texas Jo Meaker Classic and the Grizzly Gold Classic, turning in a strong overall showing highlighted by a victory in the 10,000 meters, multiple top-10 finishes, and several marks that now sit in the program record book.

At the West Texas Jo Meaker Classic, the Trojans opened the weekend with solid sprint and relay performances. In the 100 meters, Walter Parker led the way with a 43rd-place finish in 10.97, followed by Finley Beaven in 52nd at 11.14. The duo returned in the 200 meters, where Parker placed 48th in 22.35, Beaven finished 56th in 22.59, Harley McPherson took 59th in 22.72, and Leonardo Clement was close behind in 60th at 22.78.
Clement also delivered one of Colby's top individual performances of the meet in the 400 meters, placing 29th with a time of 49.65. Jairus Turbiates added a 21st-place finish in the 800 meters (2:03.27), while McPherson placed 16th in the 400-meter hurdles in 57.84. The Trojans capped the West Texas meet with a strong 4x400-meter relay performance, as McPherson, Clement, Turbiates, and Parker combined to finish 7th in 3:25.27.
At the Grizzly Gold Classic, Colby's distance and field athletes made a major impact. Alexandre LeRoy highlighted the day on the track with a 7th-place finish in the 800 meters, running 1:53.57, a mark that now ranks sixth in school history. Thomas Calas also competed in the event, placing 10th in 1:54.85, while Junior Edouard finished 82nd in 2:07.98 and Edoney Russell placed 90th in 2:17.32.
In the 400 meters, Calas placed 24th (51.73), followed by LeRoy in 31st (52.34) and Edouard in 38th (53.61). Dakotah Kotchuck added a 54th-place finish in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:43.35.
The highlight of the distance events came in the 10,000 meters, where Japhet Kiprono captured 1st place with a time of 31:54.75. His performance earned him a spot on the school record list at No. 10 and stood out as one of the top finishes of the weekend.
In the throws, Colby delivered several strong performances across multiple events. Tristan King placed 26th in the shot put (41-1.75), while Tamario Petty finished 32nd (38-2.75). In the discus, Jared Cox led the group with a 9th-place finish at 141-5.0, followed by Petty (22nd, 117-0), Sumner Homolka (23rd, 116-2), King (25th, 113-8), and Deanelo Delancy (30th, 103-4).
Petty also had a breakout performance in the hammer throw, placing 12th with a new personal best of 141-2, which moves him to fifth in school history. Cox added a 23rd-place finish at 131-9, now seventh in program history, while King placed 26th at 129-3. In the javelin, Homolka placed 8th with a personal best of 160-9, which remains the second-best mark in school history.
Overall, the Trojans delivered a productive weekend across both meets, highlighted by Kiprono's event win in the 10,000 meters, LeRoy's top-10 national-level 800-meter performance, and multiple athletes etching their names into the Colby record books.
