Men’s Basketball Season Ends with Loss at Seward County
The season came to a close for the Colby men’s basketball team Saturday as the Trojans fell to Seward County 82–66 in the opening round of the 2026 NJCAA Division I Plains District Tournament in Liberal.
LIBERAL, Kan. - The season came to a close for the Colby men's basketball team Saturday (March 7) as the Trojans fell to Seward County 82–66 in the opening round of the 2026 NJCAA Division I Plains District Tournament in Liberal.
Colby finished the season at 7–24 overall while Seward County advanced to the next round of the district tournament.
The Trojans battled early and stayed within striking distance throughout the first half. Seward County built a small advantage midway through the opening period, but Colby continued to respond offensively behind efficient shooting from the floor. The Saints ultimately carried a 38–31 lead into halftime.
Colby shot an impressive 47.6 percent from the field in the game and continued to compete early in the second half, trimming the deficit to as little as six points at one point in the contest. However, Seward County's perimeter shooting proved to be the difference. The Saints connected on 17 three-pointers in the game and used a strong scoring run midway through the second half to create separation.
Seward County also received significant production from its bench, which outscored the Trojans' reserves 48–9, helping the Saints push the lead to as much as 21 points down the stretch before securing the 82–66 victory.
D.J. Cason led the Trojans offensively with 18 points, knocking down two three-pointers while converting all six of his free throw attempts. Aliou Diallo added 11 points and dished out a team-high five assists, while Gabe Njenga recorded a double-double effort on the glass with 11 points and a team-best 10 rebounds. Giannis Asimakopoulos contributed nine points and three rebounds, while Nana Keutcha added eight points and two blocks in the effort.
Despite matching Seward County's shooting percentage from the field at 47.6 percent, the Trojans were unable to overcome the Saints' three-point barrage and second-chance opportunities. Seward County finished 17-of-37 from beyond the arc and held a slight 29–28 advantage on the boards while recording 29 assists as a team.
The loss marks the end of the 2025–26 season for the Trojans, concluding the campaign with a 7–22 overall record.
