The Colby men's basketball team returns home this week for a pair of key KJCCC matchups, hosting Fort Hays Tech Northwest on Wednesday (Feb. 25) before Garden City travels to Colby on Saturday (Feb. 28) for the last home game of the season.
Colby is led offensively by D.J. Cason, who averages 15.7 points per game while knocking down more than 2.5 three-pointers per contest. Cason leads the conference in both three-point percentage (48 percent) and free throw percentage (92.5 percent).
Aliou Diallo and Giannis Asimakopoulos also average double figures in scoring, with Diallo leading the team in assists at 2.5 per game while Cason averages over two assists per contest. In the paint, Nana Keutcha anchors the Trojans on the glass, pacing the team with 7.6 rebounds per game.
Fort Hays Tech Northwest enters Wednesday's contest with a record of 14–13 (9–12 KJCCC), riding a two-game winning streak after victories over Dodge City and Cloud County. The Tigers are led by Marquintz Dixon, who averages 16.1 points per game on nearly six made field goals per contest.
Kaleel Kelly also scores in double figures and averages more than four three-point attempts per game. Dixon ranks among the conference leaders in multiple categories, sitting fourth in rebounding (7.8 per game) and third in total blocks with 60 this season.
Garden City enters Saturday's matchup at 17–10 (12–9 KJCCC) and features one of the nation's most productive offenses, ranking fifth nationally with 98.6 points per game. The Broncbusters have five players averaging double figures, led by Devonte Reed at 14.3 points per game.
Three players average more than two made three-pointers per contest, while the team's balanced rebounding effort includes five players averaging at least 4.0 rebounds per game, led by Nico Doume with 5.3. Jamir Westry directs the offense with 4.5 assists per game and also leads the team defensively with two steals per contest.
Wednesday's game will feature Jersey Night, with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosting a tailgate inside the Event Center beginning at 4 p.m. and continuing between games. Saturday will serve as Sophomore Day, recognizing both the men's and women's basketball teams between contests.
