The Colby Trojans men's basketball team enters an important stretch of KJCCC conference play this week, opening with a marquee home matchup against No. 19 Dodge City Community College on Wednesday (Feb. 4) before traveling to Cloud County for a road contest on Saturday (Feb. 7).
Colby comes into the week with a 5–17 (3–13 KJCCC) mark in conference play, looking to build momentum as the season progresses. The Trojans have continued to compete despite a challenging schedule and will look to capitalize on opportunities against familiar conference opponents.
Sophomore guard D.J. Cason leads Colby offensively, averaging a team-high 14.8 points per game while shooting an impressive 50 percent from three-point range. Aliou Diallo and Giannis Asimakopoulos have been consistent contributors, each averaging just over 10 points per game while playing key roles on both ends of the floor. Cason and Diallo also help facilitate the offense, each averaging more than two assists per contest. On the glass, Nana Keutcha anchors the interior, pulling down a team-best 7.7 rebounds per game.
Wednesday's matchup presents a significant challenge as No. 19 Dodge City arrives with a 14–7 (10–5 KJCCC). The Conquistadors pulled away late in the first meeting between the two teams after a tightly contested game, showcasing their depth and late-game execution.
Dodge City features a balanced scoring attack, with four players averaging double figures. Derick Rivers leads the way, averaging 21.9 points per game and coming off a 24-point performance against the Trojans in the previous matchup. Rickey Lofton II and Jayvion Nurse also contribute consistent scoring, while Wesley Rosa controls the paint. Rosa averages 9.4 rebounds per game and ranks among the conference's top rim protectors with 3.5 blocks per contest.
Following the home test against Dodge City, Colby will hit the road to face Cloud County on Saturday. The Thunderbirds enter the week at 12–10 (7–9 KJCCC) after dropping two consecutive games. Cloud County had a bye earlier in the week before turning its attention to the rematch with Colby.
The Trojans earned their first conference win of the season against Cloud County earlier this year, edging the Thunderbirds 75–70 at the Event Center. Cloud County presents a tough matchup, led by Al Brooks Jr., who averages a team-high 19.1 points per game and 9.8 rebounds per contest. The Thunderbirds feature strong scoring balance, with four players averaging double figures, and Kuel Akot leading the team in three-pointers made with 39 on the season. In conference play, Manasseh Stackhouse has been Cloud County's top scorer, averaging 13.6 points per game.
With conference positioning still up for grabs, the Trojans face a pivotal week that offers opportunities to make a statement. A strong showing at home against a ranked opponent and a road win against a familiar conference foe could provide momentum as the KJCCC schedule continues.
