The Colby Trojans men's basketball team prepares for one of its toughest early-season conference tests as they travel to take on No. 22 Coffeyville on Saturday (Dec. 13). Colby enters the matchup at 3–9 (1–5 KJCCC) and is still searching for its first road victory of the year.
Colby enters the weekend looking to build momentum after securing its first conference victory of the season at home against Cloud County. The Trojans showcased several promising performances during the stretch, led by sophomore guard D.J. Cason, who earned a KJCCC Player of the Week nomination after pouring in a combined 44 points against Dodge City and Cloud County. Cason ranks fourth in the conference in three-point percentage at an impressive 50 percent on nearly five attempts per game. He also leads the Trojans in both scoring and assists, averaging 2.9 assists per contest while providing a consistent scoring presence each night.
The Trojans as a team are producing 78.3 points per game while shooting 42.2 percent from the field and 33.6 percent from beyond the arc. One of the breakout performers in recent weeks has been freshman forward Giannis Asimakopoulos, who delivered a 18-point performance on 7-of-13 shooting, including three made threes, that added a needed offensive spark.
Redshirt Sophomore Aliou Diallo has proven to be a reliable scoring option, reaching double figures in four of his last six games and totaling 72 points during a five game stretch. In the paint, Nana Keutcha anchors Colby's rebounding efforts, leading the team with 6.1 boards per game.
Coffeyville enters Saturday at 8–3 (3–3 KJCCC) but looking to regain its early-season form after dropping back-to-back games to No. 16 Cowley and a newly ranked Dodge City squad. The Red Ravens opened the season ranked No. 8 and climbed as high as No. 3 nationally. They remain one of the league's most balanced offensive teams, averaging 82.2 points per game with five players scoring in double figures.
Tyson Tucker leads Coffeyville at 12.3 points per contest, while Daniel Ntambwe has been one of the top interior forces in the conference, averaging 10.8 points and 8.0 rebounds, fifth-best in the KJCCC. Perimeter shooting is also a strength, highlighted by Ulysses Webb, who ranks second in the league in three-point percentage at an impressive 51.6 percent.
The Trojans will face a motivated Red Ravens squad eager to snap its brief skid, but Colby enters with its own sense of urgency and confidence after securing its first conference win of the season last week.
Tipoff is set for 3 p.m., with streaming information available above. Saturday's matchup will mark Colby's final contest of the semester before the Trojans return home to open the new year against Hutchinson on Saturday (Jan. 3).
