Men’s Basketball Begins Season with Dominant Home Win, Falls Short at Lamar
The Colby Community College men’s basketball team tipped off its 2025-26 season in impressive fashion, cruising to a 100-62 win over Sterling College JV then hit the road for the first time this year where they battled hard but ultimately fell to Lamar CC 93-84.

COLBY, Kan. — The Colby Community College men's basketball team tipped off its 2025-26 season in impressive fashion, cruising to a 100-62 win over Sterling College JV (Nov. 1) in its home and season opener inside the Colby Event Center. The Trojans then hit the road for the first time this year, traveling to Lamar, CO where they battled hard but ultimately fell to Lamar CC (Nov.4), 93-84.
Colby showcased a balanced and efficient attack in the opener, shooting 54.9 percent from the field and knocking down 15 three-pointers. Six Trojans scored in double figures, led by Giannis Asimakopoulos and Braedyn Gillespie, who each finished with 13 points. D.J. Cason added 12 points on a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc, while Owen Reece tallied 11 and Rhett Kats chipped in 9. Nana Keutcha anchored the paint with 6 rebounds, and Colby shared the ball well, totaling 17 assists on 39 made field goals.
At Lamar, Colby carried a slim 46-44 lead into halftime but couldn't hold off a late push by the Lopes. Despite the setback, the Trojans continued to show strong offensive rhythm and depth across the lineup.
Colby now returns home on Tuesday (Nov. 11) for a rematch against Lamar, tipping off at 7:30 p.m. inside the Colby Event Center, before heading to Great Bend later in the week to compete in the Barton Classic.
