MARSHALL, Mo. - The Colby Community College women's wrestling team stepped into one of the toughest events on the national schedule last weekend (Nov. 21-22), competing at the Missouri Valley Open, an annual tournament featuring dozens of top collegiate programs across all levels.
Despite the elite field, several Trojans turned in strong individual moments. At 131 pounds, Emma Parker opened her tournament with a solid performance, earning a first-period fall over Campbellsville's Shai Ring in the prelims. At 145 pounds, Destiny Gonzalez delivered Colby's other championship-side victory, securing a 2:21 fall against Lehigh's Lauren Vertuli to advance to the second round. Teammate Kaylen McAtee added to the effort with a 1:05 pin in consolation action against Missouri Baptist's Cara Cheng.
In the unattached division, Catherine Dutton posted one of the strongest Trojan showings of the weekend at 207 pounds, collecting a 10-0 tech fall over Friends University's Gianna Redcorn and advancing deep into the consolation bracket.
Facing a field filled with nationally ranked athletes and programs, Colby now turns its focus toward the Bob Smith Open in Hays, KS next weekend.
