The Trojans impressed in their season debut at the Falcon Open last weekend in Wichita, finishing with a 26-32 overall record highlighted by eight falls, seven tech falls, and two major decisions. It marked a strong early showing compared to last season's opener, with several wrestlers flashing early-season form and depth across the lineup. Talon Suttles stood out, posting a 4-2 record that included a pair of tech falls and a pin. Luis Vasquez (3-2) and Kash Alley (3-2) each picked up key wins, while Bob Tatum added two falls in a solid 3-2 effort. Additional victories came from Tevin Jackson, Isaiah Giron, Daniel Tauyan, Jovanny Arellanes, and Karim Saifullin as the Trojans showcased competitive depth across multiple weights.
Colby enters the first week of dual action already gaining national attention. In the latest NJCAA Men's Preseason Rankings, the Trojans sit tied for 18th nationally, with two returners earning individual recognition after qualifying for last year's NJCAA Championships. Luis Vasquez is ranked No. 8 at 125 pounds, while Cah'mari Johnson enters the season ranked No. 3 at 165 pounds after a third-place national finish in 2025.
Following Tuesday's home opener, Colby hits the road for a two-day stretch at Benedictine College (Atchison, Kan.), starting with the Loosbrock Duals on Friday (Nov. 7), followed by the Service Salute Tournament on Saturday (Nov. 8). Both events will feature strong competition from a mix of NJCAA and NAIA programs, giving the Trojans another valuable chance to gain experience and momentum early in the season.
