Colby competed at the Loosbrock Duals last weekend - Recap

Atchison Kan. - The Colby wrestling team competed at the Loosbrock duals on Friday November 10, going 1-3 on the day in dual competition. The Trojans were defeated by the Bronchos of Hastings college (NAIA) by a score of 34-12 Xzavier Martinez won by fall and Dorian Franklin as well as Ethan Anderson earned victories by decision. The #11 Njcaa ranked T-birds of Cloud Community College were up next for the Trojans, the T-Birds were able to up end the Trojans by a score of 30-21 Luis Vasquez and Ethan Anderson lead the way for the Trojan scoring both earning victories by pin and Nicholas Martinez also received a forfeit at Hwt. Anderson's fall was over the #5 ranked 197 pounder in the country.  The third round of competition pitted the Trojans against NCAA Division II Quincy University. The Trojans were no match for their opponent getting throttled  51-0. The final match of the day was Colby versus Jayhawk conference foe Barton Community College. The Trojans were able to Pull out the upset victory by a score of 25 to 24 leading the way for the Trojans Luis Vasquez moved up from his normal weight class and picked up a fall at 133 pounds. Dorian Franklin also scored bonus points picking up a 12-2 Major Dec at 174 pounds. "We have a young group and getting mat time is huge for our development. As a coaching staff we saw some positives from the day, and we also saw a lot of things we need to work on. We will get the guys ready for tomorrow and look to progress as the season rolls on." The Trojans will compete at the Service Salute Open on Saturday, November 9.
