COLBY, Kan. — The Colby Trojans women's basketball team dropped a 68–55 decision to No. 11 Butler Community College on Saturday (Jan. 17). The loss breaks a three game win streak including a comeback victory in Garden City.
Butler, coming into the game 16-1 (10-1 KJCCC) controlled the opening half, using efficient shooting and defense to build a 40–14 lead at halftime. The Grizzlies shot 43.9 percent from the field and committed just five turnovers in the contest, capitalizing early with 15 points off Colby miscues.
The Trojans responded after the break, showing resilience on both ends of the floor. Colby outscored Butler 41–28 in the second half, including a strong 20–10 advantage in the fourth quarter, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
Easha Potts led Colby with 12 points on an efficient 5-of-7 shooting night, adding five rebounds and a block. Jera Kruleski also finished with 12 points, knocking down four three-pointers and pulling down six rebounds. Dessirae Ulmer contributed 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Defensively, Colby held Butler to just 10 points in the fourth quarter and limited the Grizzlies to 68 points overall, a mark Butler had been held under only three times all season. The Trojans also won the rebounding battle, 28–25, shot 80 percent from the free-throw line, and connected on nine three-pointers in the contest.
Butler was led by Ashley Singhateh with 11 points, while Aliyah Green and Keegan Yarick each added 10. The Grizzlies received a strong bench performance, with four players scoring five or more points, as Butler outscored Colby's reserves 20–10.
Colby will look to carry its second-half momentum into its next conference matchup at Independence on Wednesday (Jan. 21). The Trojans opened KJCCC play with a dominant 57–24 victory over Independence earlier this season and will aim to replicate that success on the road.
