The Colby Community College women's basketball team is preparing for one of its most challenging stretches of the early season, traveling to face No. 1 Dodge City on Wednesday (Dec. 3) before returning home to host Cloud County on Saturday (Dec. 6).
The Trojans (5–5, 2–2 KJCCC) enter the week looking to build on a balanced start. Colby averages 58.7 points per game while holding opponents to nearly the same mark at 58.9. The Trojans distribute the ball well, posting 10.2 assists per game, and collect 31.9 rebounds per contest.
Freshman Olivia Hultgren continues to pace the offense with 12.7 points per game, the lone Trojan currently in double figures. Logan Nolan and Hultgren share the lead in assists, each contributing more than two per contest, while sophomore Dessirae Ulmer anchors the interior with a team-high 7.3 rebounds per game.
Dodge City has been dominant through the opening month, entering the matchup with a flawless 8–0 record highlighted by decisive wins across the board. The Conquistadors feature four players averaging double figures, led by Jolie Mantz at 13.8 points per game. Manuela Piljevic has also emerged as a major force, ranking among the team leaders in both scoring and rebounding.
Offensively, Dodge City is one of the most explosive teams in the nation. The Conqs lead all NJCAA programs with 13.5 made threes per game while also ranking fifth nationally in three-point percentage. Their ball movement is equally impressive, averaging 23.1 assists per game, the third-highest mark in the country.
After the midweek road test, Colby returns to the Colby Event Center to take on Cloud County. The T-Birds (4–5, 0–4 KJCCC) bring a high-powered offense into the matchup, averaging 82.2 points, 17.7 assists, and 41.2 rebounds per game. They are led by standout scorer Camiah Muldrow, who posts 19.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per contest.
Cloud County features four players averaging double figures, including two who shoot better than 50 percent from the field while scoring 10 or more points per game. After opening the season 4–1, the T-Birds have stumbled in conference play, dropping their first four league games despite strong offensive numbers.
Colby will look to rely on its defense as it navigates a demanding week against two dangerous opponents.
