COLBY, Kan. — A tough third quarter proved costly for the Trojans women's basketball team Saturday (Nov. 29) afternoon, as the Trojans fell 57–44 to Cowley County inside the Colby Event Center. The loss moves Colby to 5–5 (2–2 KJCC).
Colby opened strong, leading 12–11 after the first quarter, but struggled to find rhythm offensively in the middle frames, scoring just 13 total points in the second and third. Cowley capitalized with a decisive 24-point third quarter to take control. Despite the deficit, the Trojans showed fight down the stretch, outscoring Cowley 19–10 in the fourth behind improved ball movement and defensive pressure.
Dessirae Ulmer once again set the tone for Colby, narrowly missing a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. Jera Kruleski added eight points, while Olivia Hultgren and Elia Ando each contributed six, with Ando also pulling down three boards. Easha Potts opened the night strong with five early points in the first quarter before Cowley's defense tightened up to hold her scoreless the rest of the way.
Making her return to the rotation, Piri Lewis provided a spark off the bench, handing out three assists and scoring four points on two efficient looks. As a team, Colby shot 31.4 percent from the floor and connected on five three-pointers.
Cowley was led by Aniyah Burney, who scored a game-high 18 points, while Megan Simon and Mallory Jackson each added 9 for the visiting Tigers.
The Trojans will look to regroup quickly as they head back on the road Wednesday (Dec. 3) for one of their toughest challenges of the season, a showdown with No. 1 Dodge City Community College. The Conquistadors enter the matchup a perfect 8–0, coming off a convincing win over Cloud County. Colby will aim to deliver a high-energy performance as they look to hand Dodge City its first loss of the year.
