COLBY, Kan. — The Colby Community College women's basketball team opened the 2025-26 season in impressive fashion, dominating its first two home contests before earning a gritty road win to cap off a perfect opening stretch. The Trojans cruised past Sterling College JV (Nov. 1) and McPherson College JV (Nov. 2) inside the Colby Event Center, outscoring their opponents by a combined 191-105, before traveling to Lamar Community College (Nov. 4) and grinding out a 65-62 victory in their first road test of the year.
In their home opener, Colby poured in 88 points en route to their 88-50 win over Sterling JV. The Trojans shot an efficient 49.3% from the field and connected on 12 three-pointers, led by Olivia Hultgren's 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting, including 4-of-10 from deep. Karlotta Kattai added 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc, while Elia Ando anchored the paint with 13 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Easha Potts chipped in nine points and three boards, and Adrian Neal knocked down two triples for eight points off the bench.
Colby carried that momentum into its second home contest, defeating McPherson JV 91-43 behind another balanced offensive performance and a dominant showing on the glass. The Trojans outrebounded McPherson 50-24 and had five players score in double figures. Hultgren once again led the charge with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting (4-of-5 from three), while Neal added 17 points and three assists, and Amisha Russell chipped in 11 points. Ando posted a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds, while Potts contributed 10 points and nine boards.
The Trojans' depth was on full display across the first two games, as 10 different players scored in each contest and the team averaged 95.5 points per game while shooting nearly 48% from the field.
The Trojans then hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to Lamar Community College and securing a hard-fought 65-62 victory on the road. The win marked Colby's first away victory of the year and showcased the team's ability to close out tight contests against quality opponents.
Colby will look to keep its strong start rolling when it returns home on Tuesday (Nov. 11) to face Lamar Community College once again, this time inside the Colby Event Center. The Trojans then travel to Great Bend, Kansas, for the Barton Classic, where they'll take on Redlands College and Grayson College the following day. After the classic, Colby shifts its focus to KJCCC play, opening the conference schedule at home against Independence Community College.
