COLBY, Kan. — The Colby Community College softball program continues to excel beyond the playing field, earning national recognition from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) for outstanding academic performance during the 2024-25 academic year.
With an impressive 3.820 team GPA, the Trojans ranked third in the nation among all NJCAA programs in the NFCA Easton Top 10 Team GPAs, as announced by the association this week. The achievement reflects the team's strong commitment to academic excellence under the leadership of first-year head coach Jazmine Esparza.
In addition to the team honor, 21 Trojan student-athletes were named Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athletes, earning a spot on the All-America list by maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher throughout the academic year. They were among the 895 NJCAA student-athletes and 9,199 total collegiate athletes recognized across all levels.
The Easton/NFCA academic awards spotlight the nation's top-performing softball programs across NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, as well as the NAIA, NJCAA, and other collegiate divisions. Only 13 two-year colleges nationwide earned a team GPA of 3.8 or higher, underscoring the significance of Colby's elite finish.
