Downes Earns Top-Five Finish at OSU Cowboy Stampede

STILLWATER, Okla. — The Colby Community College rodeo team made a strong showing at the OSU Cowboy Stampede hosted by Oklahoma State University this past weekend (Oct. 2-4), highlighted by a standout performance from Lakoddah Downes, who bulldogged his way to a 5th-place finish in steer wrestling against one of the toughest fields in the Central Plains Region.

Downes stopped the clock in 5.2 seconds, marking Colby's top finish of the weekend and continuing his momentum as one of the region's most consistent all-around competitors. He also teamed up with Kade Homm in team roping, where the pair finished 41st with a time of 25.4 seconds.

The breakaway roping pen saw Rylie Sexson lead a six-member Colby lineup, finishing 32nd with a 3.3-second run. Colby also had strong efforts in goat tying, where Brooklynn Hughes finished 48th (9.5) and Dali Reser placed 50th (9.9).

In barrel racing, Emma Krase led the Trojans with a 17.06, placing 70th, followed by Sexson (71st, 17.14), Mara Kats (113th, 20.28), Constance Kautz Johansen (117th, 20.64), and Alaura Crockett-Armijo (128th, 22.09).

The Trojans will look to build on Downes' top-five finish as they gear up for their final fall appearance at the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Rodeo in Alva (Oct. 30–Nov. 1).
