Rodeo Athletes Make Short Round at FHSU
Downes, Miller turn in solid performances
Members of the Colby Community College rodeo team had solid performances at the Fort Hays State University Rodeo, held April 17-19 in Hays.
Lakoddah Downes advanced to the short round in steer wrestling after posting a time of 8.5 seconds in the long round, tying for seventh and eighth place. He followed with a 12.7-second run in the short round to finish fourth in that round and fifth overall in the average.
In team roping, Ethan Miller and his partner Quirt Carroll of Oklahoma State University recorded a 9.6-second run in the long round to place 11th and advance to the short round. However, the pair fell short of expectations in their final run.
CCC Rodeo Coach LeRoy Hays said the team continues to build momentum this semester.
"The CCC rodeo team is having good things happen this semester," he said.
The squad finishes the spring schedule April 24-26 in Goodwell, Okla., at the Oklahoma Panhandle State University rodeo.
