Lakoddah Downes secured a seventh-place finish in steer wrestling at the Fort Scott Community College rodeo, held March 7-9.
Downes, who competed in team roping last fall, expanded his events this semester by adding steer wrestling. He posted a 4.5-second run in the first round, winning the round and earning a spot in the short go. In the final round, he successfully caught his steer in 12.0 seconds, placing seventh.
"All our rodeo athletes are working hard this semester, and we look forward to more good things to come in the spring rodeo schedule," said Coach LeRoy Hays.
The team resumes competition with the first of four rodeos in April, beginning on the 4th in Garden City.
