Bio
Colby Community College welcomed former Trojan national champion runner Chayse McCullough back to the program in 2026 as the first-ever Associate Track & Field/Cross Country Coach in school history.
A native of Plainville, Kansas, McCullough returns to Colby after a successful collegiate running career that began with the Trojans. During his time at Colby, he was a member of the historic 2022 NJCAA National Championship Cross Country team before continuing his career at the NCAA Division I level with the University of Missouri–Kansas City. He later transferred to Fort Hays State University, where he completed his bachelor’s degree while competing for one of the top NCAA Division II distance programs in the nation.
While at Fort Hays State, McCullough earned three MIAA Academic Honor Roll selections, highlighting his commitment to both academics and athletics.
McCullough brings strong leadership and mentorship experience to the Trojan coaching staff through years of community involvement and work in education settings. He has volunteered as a coach and mentor with the Solomon Valley ARC, helping teach and support children with special needs and disabilities, while also assisting students in classroom environments focused on special education.
As Associate Coach, McCullough works collaboratively with the Trojan coaching staff across both track & field and cross country operations, assisting with recruiting, athlete development, training programs, and day-to-day operations.
McCullough and his wife, Emily, share deep ties to the Trojan program. Emily, a former Colby national champion in the 3,000 meters during the 2023 NJCAA Indoor National Championships, has gone on to become one of the top NCAA Division II distance runners in the country at Fort Hays State. She is a two-time defending MIAA Cross Country Champion, NCAA Division II All-American, multi-time All-MIAA performer, and school record holder.
McCullough’s return represents another major step forward for the Trojan Track & Field and Cross Country programs as Colby continues building upon its tradition of regional and national success.
