Men's Track & Field Post Strong Showing at Region 6 Championships
The Colby men’s track and field team wrapped up the Region 6 Championships at Cowley College, finishing tied for ninth overall out of 14 teams with multiple point-scoring performances and several top-10 program marks highlighted across the weekend.
ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Colby men's track and field team wrapped up the Region 6 Championships at Cowley College, finishing tied for ninth overall out of 14 teams with multiple point-scoring performances and several top-10 program marks highlighted across the weekend.
On the track, Javano Bridgewater led a strong sprint group with a 5th-place finish in the 400m (46.68, NJCAA qualifying mark), one of the top performances of the meet for the Trojans. Redith Stubbs added a 14th-place finish in 48.68, while Leonardo Clement placed 19th in 50.27.
In the 800m, Alexandre LeRoy delivered one of the standout performances of the weekend, placing 4th in 1:50.93, an NJCAA qualifying mark and the 2nd-fastest time in school history, along with a personal best. Thomas Calas finished 8th in 1:54.63, and Jairus Turrbiates placed 15th in 1:58.11.
Kenan Delestre had a strong distance showing, finishing 3rd in the 3000m steeplechase in 9:07.68 (NJCAA qualifying mark), then returning to take 5th in the 5000m in 14:58.25 (NJCAA qualifying mark). Japhet Kiprono added a 10th-place finish in the 5000m (15:33.33), while Dakotah Kotchuck competed in both the 1500m (23rd, 4:34.96) and 5000m (20th, 18:32.62). Junior Edouard placed 20th in the 1500m in 4:27.90.
The relay squads also delivered strong performances. The 4x100m relay team of Javano Bridgewater, Walter Parker, Harley McPherson, and Jonathan Mader placed 5th in 43.04, ranking ninth all-time in school history. The 4x400m relay team of Redith Stubbs, Javano Bridgewater, Leonardo Clement, and Irad Mixon also placed 5th in 3:16.55, the sixth-fastest time in school history. The 4x800m relay of Thomas Calas, Junior Edouard, Kenan Delestre, and Alexandre LeRoy finished 6th in 7:44.87, the third-fastest mark in program history and an NJCAA qualifying performance.
In the field events, Jared Cox placed 7th in the discus (140-02), while Tamario Petty finished 14th (125-00). Sumner Homolka placed 16th (114-10). In the hammer throw, Petty placed 15th (141-10), Cox was 21st (125-10), and Deangelo Delancy finished 26th (108-10). In the javelin, Homolka placed 4th with a throw of 166-02, still second all-time in school history and a personal best.
The Trojans will now look towards the NJCAA Championships set for two weekends from this past weekend.
