Colby track and field will return to action this weekend (April 17-18) at the Coyote Classic, hosted at the Graves Family Sports Complex, as the Trojans look to build momentum across a loaded two-day meet featuring strong competition from across the region.
Action begins Friday (April 17) afternoon with field events at 1 p.m., including the hammer throw, shot put, and high jump, before a full slate of running and field events continues Saturday (April 18) beginning at 10 a.m.
On the women's side, Colby will be led in the sprints by Beatrice Boakye, Faith Vine, and Ashleah Hewitt in the 100-meter dash. Vine also highlights the 200-meter group, where she enters alongside Ragan Mauler and Isabelle Gillham. Vine continues to stand out as one of the team's top sprinters, holding the group's strongest entry time in the 200m.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Randieunna Jeffery will headline the event for the Trojans after earning KJCCC Women's Field Athlete of the Week earlier this season for her performance in the hurdles. In the field, Ella Clark and Mauler will compete in the long jump as Colby looks to score key points across multiple disciplines.
On the men's side, Finley Beaven will compete in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes, while Meredith Stubbs and Leonardo Clement enter the 400 meters with top-tier seed times, ranking second and third among entries. Harley McPherson will take on the 400-meter hurdles.
In the throws, Colby will bring a strong group led by Jared Cox in the discus, where he enters with the eighth-best mark in a field of 35 athletes. Tristan King also ranks among the top competitors, holding the seventh-best hammer throw mark in the meet. Tamario Petty continues his strong season after earning KJCCC Field Athlete of the Week honors, while Sumner Homolka highlights the javelin group with the third-best mark in the event and the second-best in Colby program history.
Both relay squads also enter the weekend in strong position, with Colby holding the best entry time in the 4x100-meter relay on both the men's and women's sides. The men's 4x400-meter relay team also leads the field heading into competition.
With strong marks across sprints, relays, and field events, the Trojans will look to make a statement this weekend in Salina as they continue their push through the outdoor season.
