Bridgewater Breaks Records, Trojans Open Outdoor Season Strong at West Texas Relays
The Colby Trojans men’s track and field team opened its outdoor season with an impressive showing at the West Texas Relays this weekend, highlighted by record-breaking performances, national marks, and strong depth across multiple events.
MIDLAND, TX - The Colby Trojans men's track and field team opened its outdoor season with an impressive showing at the West Texas Relays this weekend (March 20-21), highlighted by record-breaking performances, national marks, and strong depth across multiple events.
Leading the way for the Trojans was Javano Bridgewater, who delivered a standout meet on the track. Bridgewater placed second in the 200 meters with a time of 20.76, marking the second-fastest time in school history and currently ranking second in the nation. He followed that performance with another second-place finish in the 400 meters, clocking a school-record 46.67, also the second-best time nationally.
In the sprints, Walter Parker led Colby in the 100 meters with an 18th-place finish (10.89), while Finley Beaven added a pair of performances in the 100 (11.35) and 200 (22.61).
Jairus Turrbiates paced the Trojans in the 800 meters with a sixth-place finish (2:03.03), followed by Junior Edouard (8th, 2:10.92) and Edoney Russell (11th, 2:24.20). Edouard later doubled back in the 1500 meters.
In the 1500 meters, Alexandre LeRoy led a strong group effort, finishing fifth in 4:04.37, a time that currently ranks 12th in the nation. He was joined by Thomas Calas (9th, 4:10.92), Kenan Delestre (10th, 4:13.84), Japhet Kiprono (11th, 4:13.85), and Enoha Reizabel-Bellanger (15th, 4:19.31).
In the hurdles, Harley McPherson placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.49 and later helped power the 4x400 relay team alongside Leonardo Clement, Turrbiates, and LeRoy to a time of 3:29.53.
The Trojans also made their presence felt in the field events. Tristan King turned in a strong meet, placing fourth in the shot put (42-8.00), a mark that ranks ninth in school history. King followed that with a record-breaking performance in the hammer throw, finishing fourth with a distance of 153-7.0, surpassing the previous school record by nearly nine feet.
In the discus, Jared Cox earned a runner-up finish with a throw of 146-3.0, tying for third in program history. Cox also added a fifth-place finish in the hammer (137-3.0). Tamario Petty (6th, 132-3.0) and Delancy (10th, 110-5.0) added depth in the event. Sumner Homolka is now third all time in the javelin after getting fifth with a throw of 154-9.0.
Overall, the Trojans opened the outdoor campaign with multiple top finishes, a school record, and several marks that already rank among the best in the nation, setting the tone for a promising season ahead.
