Men's Track & Field Claims DMR Title, Posts Record Performances at KJCCC Indoor Championships
The Colby Trojans men’s track and field team turned in an impressive performance at the KJCCC Indoor Championships, highlighted by a conference championship in the distance medley relay, multiple school records, and several historic performances across the meet.
PITTSBURG, KS. - The Colby Trojans men's track and field team turned in an impressive performance at the KJCCC Indoor Championships, highlighted by a conference championship in the distance medley relay, multiple school records, and several historic performances across the meet.
Colby's top moment came in the distance medley relay (DMR), where the team of Alexandre LeRoy, Leonardo Clement, Thomas Calas, and Kenan Delestre captured the KJCCC title with a time of 10:03.32. The performance not only secured the conference championship and an NJCAA qualifying mark, but also ranks as the second-fastest time in school history, showcasing the Trojans' strength in distance competition.
The Trojans saw standout success in middle-distance events, led by Kenan Delestre, who delivered a record-breaking performance in the 1000 meters. Delestre placed sixth with a personal-best time of 2:28.07, setting a new school record and earning All-KJCCC honors. He also posted a strong fifth-place finish in the mile with an NJCAA qualifying time of 4:14.28 and contributed to the championship DMR squad.
LeRoy also had a historic meet, finishing fifth in the 800 meters in 1:54.66, the fifth-fastest time in school history, while earning All-KJCCC recognition. He later recorded a personal best in the 1000 meters (2:28.08), which now ranks second all-time in program history, and helped lead the DMR to its conference title. Calas added an All-KJCCC performance in the 800 meters, placing sixth in 1:54.90, the eighth-fastest mark in school history, and competed on the winning DMR team.
In distance events, Enoha Reizabal-Bellanger earned All-KJCCC honors with a fourth-place finish in the 3000 meters, while Japhet Kiprono secured a top-10 showing. Dakotah Kotchuck competed in both the mile and 3000 meters, adding valuable points for the Trojans.
Colby's sprint group was led by Javano Bridgewater, who delivered one of the meet's most notable performances in the 400 meters. Bridgewater placed fourth with an NJCAA qualifying time of 46.84, setting a personal best and breaking his own school record. The Trojans also received contributions from Irad Mixon and Leonardo Clement in the event.
In preliminary sprint action, Walter Parker, Jonathan Mader, and Finley Beaven competed in both the 60-meter and 200-meter races, while the 4x400-meter relay team of Harley McPherson, Bridgewater, Jairus Turrbiates, and Mixon placed fifth to earn All-KJCCC honors.
The Trojans also saw strong performances in the field events. Tristan King recorded a personal-best mark of 41-11.50 in the shot put and placed 11th in the weight throw to lead Colby's throwers, while Tamario Petty and Deangelo Delancy added depth in the shot put and weight throw competitions.
Overall, the Trojans delivered a strong performance at the conference indoor championships, highlighted by a school record, a conference championship in the distance medley relay, and multiple NJCAA qualifying marks. They finished eighth in a 14 team competition, notching 40 points as a team. Hutchinson claimed the men's title with 122 total points on their squad. The momentum now shifts to the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, set for March 6–7 in Topeka and hosted by Washburn University, where the Trojans will look to build on their success at the national level.
