Equestrian Sends Two to IHSA Championship
Milford, Stewart ride in North Carolina
Colby Community College equestrian team members Jenna Milford and Jakeob Stewart had a strong showing at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association's (IHSA) National Championship hosted by Tryon International in Mill Spring, N.C., May 3 through 5.
Milford qualified for the Back on Track High Point rider class. Securing her trip to IHSA Nationals after winning the IHSA Zone 8 Region 5 high point rider, Milford showed off her skills in the two-phase competition consisting of horsemanship and reining portions.
"Jenna came to play," said head coach Jessica Bugbee. "These are some of the best riders in the country, and Jenna was right there with them."
Milford finished 13th overall.
Stewart qualified for the AQHA Individual Beginner Horsemanship class and placed 8th.
"Jakeob has been so fun to coach these last two years," Bugbee said. "I'm sure he's still in shock, but he definitely proved he deserved to be here."
Bugbee was impressed with the poise of the Colby riders.
"I'm so proud of how these kids rode and handled themselves. It can be so daunting to show at this level, but they both rode their best and left it all in the arena. I'm excited to see what next season brings!"
