After a breakthrough series against previously ranked Barton, the Colby Trojans baseball team enters this week riding newfound momentum. The Trojans swept the home doubleheader before splitting their games in Great Bend, securing their first victories of the season and bringing their record to 10-20 (3-13 KJCCC). This week, Colby hosts a non-conference matchup against McCook on Monday (March 30) before resuming conference play at Seward County Thursday (April 2).
Colby's offense has been firing on all cylinders, posting a team batting average of .304 with 231 runs scored. Freshman standout Callum Thomson leads the charge, hitting .341 with a .648 slugging percentage, four home runs, and six doubles. Turner Zdunich is right on his heels with a .333 average and team-high nine home runs, posting a team-best .468 on-base percentage and 32 RBIs. Shortstop Jake Brooks has been a model of consistency, appearing in all 29 games and contributing 27 RBIs, helping anchor a lineup that's beginning to find its groove.
McCook brings a strong 24-7 (7-1), hitting .340 as a team with a .604 slugging percentage. They are led by Jakoby Hamer, who sports a .385 average, nine home runs, and 38 RBIs, while Dalton Berg paces the squad with 11 homers and 39 RBIs. The Bulldogs boast 11 players hitting over .300, making them a formidable test for the Trojans' pitching staff.
Seward County enters the week at 17-21 (9-3 KJCCC). Earlier in the season, they defeated Barton three games to one, proving they are a team to watch. The Saints hit .317 as a squad with a .519 slugging percentage and 37 home runs. Freshman Isaiah Santaella leads Seward with a .385 average and 15 doubles, while Grant Cox has compiled 33 RBIs. Five other players have over 20 RBIs, highlighting the depth Colby will face in conference action.
The Trojans look to continue their hot streak and solidify their place in KJCCC competition. With confidence growing after their first series victory and a lineup that's clicking at the plate, Colby is poised to make a statement this week as they take on McCook and Seward County.
