Baseball Heads to Northeastern for Weekend Non-Conference Clash
The Colby Trojans baseball team hits the road this weekend to wrap up its current stretch of non-conference play with a four-game series against Northeastern Junior College. The series begins Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m., followed by another doubleheader Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Colby Trojans baseball team hits the road this weekend to wrap up its current stretch of non-conference play with a four-game series against Northeastern Junior College. The series begins Saturday (Feb. 28) with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m., followed by another doubleheader Sunday (March 1) at 1 p.m.
Colby enters the weekend with a 3–5 record after winning three of four games in its most recent series against Lamar. The Trojans have posted a .217 team batting average with a strong .384 on-base percentage and 18 extra-base hits through the first eight contests.
Turner Zdunich has paced the offensive production early this season, recording a team-high four extra-base hits, including two doubles and two home runs, while batting .364. He also leads the Trojans with nine RBIs. Caden Clifford has provided additional power at the plate, hitting .333 with two home runs, while Jacob Mraz has created opportunities on the basepaths with a team-leading five stolen bases, tied for 13th in the conference.
On the mound, Dallen Rude has led the Trojans with a 3.86 ERA across two appearances, allowing just one earned run. Zdunich has also contributed as a key arm, posting a 4.26 ERA in two outings with only three earned runs allowed. Isaiah Sadorus brings strikeout ability to the rotation, holding a 1–1 record with an impressive 11.74 strikeouts per nine innings, while Brody Torkelson is 1–1 with a 7.20 ERA and secured a key win in a homeopener victory over Lamar.
Northeastern enters the series with a 10–4 overall record and has been dominant offensively. Sophomore Tanner Peerey leads the Plainsmen, hitting nearly .500 through 11 games with four doubles and five home runs. Two additional Northeastern players have also recorded five home runs, contributing to the team's 28 total long balls.
As a team, Northeastern is batting .341 with a .644 slugging percentage. The Plainsmen have split a series with New Mexico Military Institute and earned four-game series sweeps over Miles and Williston State. Northeastern has also been strong at home, posting an 8–2 record on their home field.
Following the weekend series, Colby will turn its focus to conference play, traveling to face Hutchinson on Thursday (March 5) before returning home the following weekend to complete the series Saturday (March 7).
