The Colby Trojans return home this week for their 2026 home opener, hosting Lamar Community College in a four-game series that begins Thursday (Feb. 12) at Young Memorial Field before traveling to Lamar on Saturday (Feb. 14) for a doubleheader on the Lopes home field.
The Trojans enter the week searching for their first win after being swept in a four-game series against Western Oklahoma State College in Altus.
Turner Zdunich and freshman Callum Thomson led the Trojans at the plate, each hitting .375 in the series. Zdunich powered the offense with a breakout performance Sunday, launching two home runs and posting a team-leading 1.125 slugging percentage. His two homers are tied for the second-most in the conference. He also drew three walks and recorded three hits across the series.
Thomson made an immediate impact in his collegiate debut, collecting three hits, including two doubles, and driving in a run. Caden Clifford also contributed offensively, hitting a home run, driving in two runs, and drawing two walks.
As a team, Colby scored 10 runs across four games and will look for increased production this week as they settle into the early portion of the season.
Lamar enters the series with a 2-4 record, picking up wins over fellow KJCCC programs Seward County and Garden City. The Lopes have shown strong offensive capabilities early in the season, scoring 52 runs in six games, though they have also surrendered 72 runs.
Sophomore Keenan Oxford leads Lamar offensively with a .409 batting average, highlighted by three home runs, one triple, two doubles, and 12 RBIs. On the mound, Benicio Marchiondo has made two appearances, including one start. He has thrown 6.0 innings with six strikeouts and carries a 9.00 ERA.
First pitch for Thursday's home opening double-header is scheduled for noon at Young Memorial Field. The team will then head West to Lamar for Saturday's double-header.
