Another eight for Lady Trojans

Shortstop Haley Fox against Garden City March 7 in Colby.

For the second time this season the Colby Community College Lady Trojans softball team has an eight-game winning streak. Colby won 9-0 and 9-2 over Dodge City Wednesday at Carl Adams Field.

Game one only went six innings because of the score after Colby pounded out 15 hits.

The Lady Trojans, 27-7 overall and 12-4 in the Jayhawk Conference, scored once in each of the first two innings on RBI singles by Katelin Eastman and Alyssa Long.

In the fifth, a three-run home run by Haley Fox made it 5-0 and the Lady Trojans tallied two more on an Eastman single before Alexis Kagan swiped home.

Eastman drove in the last two her four RBIs to end the game at 9-0 in the sixth.

Pitcher Cassi Clouse threw the shutout, striking out five and walking a batter. The lone hit for Dodge City (11-23, 4-12) came when Jordyn McDaniel singled in the first inning.

The offense continued in the second game when Colby plated three in the bottom of the first.

After the Conquistadors closed the gap to 3-2 in the third inning, Colby responded in the bottom frame when Jaycie George doubled home a run and Lanessa Amador picked up an RBI single.

In the fourth, Kagan's RBI double made it 6-2 before Eastman hit a three-run blast to finish the scoring.

Mahealani Haegele threw four and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out six.

Colby hits the road Sunday for a conference double-header with Garden City (18-18, 6-10). The first pitch is set for 2 p.m.
