Colby Community College sophomore basketball players Ajou Deng and Shaq Athie received honorable mention recognition for their play this season in the division I Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.

"Both Shaq and Ajou are well deserving of their nomination," said Trojans coach Rusty Grafel. "There are so many good players in our conference it's tough for all of them to get selected."

Athie averaged 13.4 points and 2.5 assists a game while shooting 42 percent from the field.  The 6-foot-4 Cincinnati, Ohio native played in 30 games.

The 6-foot-9 Deng shot nearly 45 percent from the field. He also averaged 10.9 points and 7.7 rebounds in 23 games.

Grafel said coaches from Division I colleges have expressed interest in both Athie and Deng, but neither has made a commitment for next year.

Players selected to the all-conference teams were nominated by their coaches and voted on by opposing coaches, who did not vote for their own players. The complete list can be found at http://kjccc.org/sports/mbkb/2016-17/2017_ALL_KJCCC_D1_MEN.htm
